Culture
Flash! You see a
snapshot of hundreds of bodies, bouncing to the
thundering music. The room is cavernous, the light
dim. Your arms and feet freestyle to the throbbing
rhythm. Suddenly, the rhythmic pulses taper off,
and the melody overflows onto the dancefloor,
fading away...
The dj quickly
drops the next song, and instantly everybody snaps
into different motions. The bassline burrows into
your chest, hypnotizing you into a moving
trance...
The culture of
dj's, dance musicians, and "clubbers" inspires much
of the new music being created today.
Usually, the songs are recorded once by the
musicians using electronic equipment, never to be
performed live. Instead, dj's select these songs
and put together dazzling live dance mixes by
controlling turntables, CD players, effects units,
and a mixer live in a club. In some clubs, the beat
of the music controls a laser lighting
system!
